Quick Tip

Sort in small piles and allow time to put all sorted items away.

1. Set timer (3 to 7 minutes)
2. Grab a small stack of items from one pile
3. Pick a maximum of 4 categories to sort into, i.e., “file, recycle, trash, action”
4. Sort until time runs out (you may grab more items from a pile if time remains; however, when the timer goes off place any unsorted items back in original pile)
5. Set timer again (7 – 16 minutes)
6. Deal with categories
   1. File
   2. Complete quick action items
   3. Plan time to complete remaining action items (put in calendar)
   4. Put action items in a place separate from any other piles that is easy to remember and access*
7. Repeat
